“If you know someone who’s depressed, please resolve never to ask them why. Depression isn’t a straightforward response to a bad situation; depression just is, like the weather.Try to understand the blackness, lethargy, hopelessness, and loneliness they’re going through. Be there for them when they come through the other side. It’s hard to be a friend to someone who’s depressed, but it is one of the kindest, noblest, and best things you will ever do.” ― Stephen Fry

depression is like being in a dark hole. no color, no hope. no one can know how it feels unless they have experienced it. i have been diagnosed in my late 60’s with borderline personality disorder. this includes bi-polar, manic depressive, paranoia, poor self imagae and more.
our depression lasts much longer with mood changes, poor relationships. And so, it is frustrating that friends cannot comprehend why I do the things I do. It’s so hard being like this.

I love how you are spot on! As someone who battles depression you have captured the very essence of how I often feel. Depression is such a ugly black pit to be in, a isolating nothingness no one would ever choose. There is no rhyme or reason. It is like asking why is the sky blue, but to know that you have someone caring about you , willing to listen when you want to vent and also to just be loving on you when you want to see no one, talk to no one ,listen to no one. That is a comfort to a soul locked up in pain or sadness. Yes it is hard to be that person for someone. In the same breath it is hard to be depressed. There is a other side and when you get there, it is glorious. Like a big hugh sun rising in the morning sky.
